Wednesday, July 12, 2017   |   ENSCO DS-10   |   12,000 ft.   Drillship
Newbuild UDW drillship ENSCO DS-10 (12,000') has been contracted by Shell Nigeria for a one-year contract with five one-year options. The new contract is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2018. Delivery of the newbuild from Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea had been pushed back to 1Q/2019, but will now be accelerated to September 25, 2017. It will then undergo a period of acceptance testing before mobilizing to Nigeria to begin its maiden contract, believed to be at the Bonga Southwest and Aparo development. Remaining capital expenditures associated with the rig are around $190 million inclusive of a final milestone payment to the shipyard, an upgrade to add a second seven-ram blowout preventer, acceptance testing, capitalized interest and mobilization.

UDW drillship ENSCO DS-7 (12,000') will return to work with Total in early August 2017 for a one-well plus one-well (priced) option contract offshore Cote d?Ivoire. The initial well in Block CI-100 will take around 60 days to drill and the rig could be occupied up until November this year. The rig has been stacked in Tenerife since Total early terminated its last contract in November 2017.

Further to a RigLogix report from February 20, ENSCO has now confirmed that UDW drillship ENSCO DS-4 (10,000') will commence a two-year contract with Chevron offshore Nigeria in early August 2017, and that the operator also has a one-year option attached to the contract. ENSCO recently reactivated the rig following a period of preservation stacking in Tenerife. Reactivation expenses are expected to total $28 million and in addition to this $15 million of capital upgrades were added to the rig and are anticipated to benefit the asset over its remaining work life.
