Qatar Petroleum Development (QPD) has opted to keep Gulf Drilling International (GDI) jackup Msheireb (300'-IC) for another 41 days. The original 120-day rig contract ended July 10, but will now run into the second-half of August. Upon completion, the rig, a LeTourneau Class 84-S design, will go in for its 5-year SPS. Market sources then are speculating GDI will swap the rig out with jackup Halul (300'-IC), which is currently under contract with Qatar Petroleum until April 2021. The Halul, a Keppel FELS MOD V B design, would then go to North Oil Company as the second of three, 3-year jackup contracts for the Al-Shaheen Field.

The well will cover drilling of a wildcat targeting the Guanxuma prospect in BM-S-8 and the DST will be at the Carcara discovery. The rig will commence work under the new contract between December 2017 and January 2018. The backlog for the firm portion of the contract, is expected to be around $26 million.
